Engineering?
Fire protection engineers use science and technology to protect people, property and businesses from destructive fires. They analyze how buildings are used, how fires start, how fires grow, and how fire and smoke affects people, buildings and property.

Who are we?
Cal Poly SFPE is a student chapter of the larger Society of Fire Protection Engineering. Our chapter was founded in 2010 by 3 founding members.
​
Cal Poly is 1 of 3 universities that offer fire protection engineering graduate level degrees, and it is the only program on the west coast. The Cal Poly fire protection program had its first graduating class in 2012 year, and now has over 120 alumni!
As a club on Cal Poly's campus, we host guest speakers and participate in Open House and Wow Club Showcase. We also attend conferences like the NFPA Conference and Expo, and SFPE's international and local chapter meetings and symposiums.

SFPE
SFPE's mission is to "define, develop, and advance the use of engineering best practices; expand the scientific and technical knowledge base; and educate the global fire safety community, to reduce fire risk," as said on their website.

SFPE funds research in advancing the safety of engineering, provides scholarships for students, helps people prepare for the PE exam, and creates networking opportunities.

Cal Poly's SFPE chapter hosts guest speakers throughout the school year. We are also looking to start more social events and alumni events in the near future.
